There are several activities planned to celebrate Independence Day in Great Falls and Black Eagle.
The Great Falls Municipal Band will present a free “Patriotic Summer Celebration” Concert on Wednesday, July 3rd, in the Mansfield Convention Center. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. (concessions available) and pre-concert entertainment from Miss Linda’s Studio Centre will begin at 5:45 p.m. The concert begins at 7:00 p.m. and will feature patriotic selections and marches.
The Great Falls Independence Day Parade will be on Thursday, July 4. The parade begins at 11 a.m. and the route runs from 1st Avenue South to 8th Street, north to Central Avenue and then heads west to Park Drive and disbands in Margaret Park (north of the Civic Center).
Immediately following the parade, there will be a free concert featuring Granger Smith – don’t miss out on a street festival with music, dancing, food trucks and more! Click here for more details.
In Black Eagle, the celebration starts at 11 a.m. with a parade hosted by the Black Eagle Volunteer Fire Department. This year’s theme is ‘Parade of Stars: Local Heroes.’ Four people will be honored as grand marshals during the event. Smelter Avenue in Black Eagle will close at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday from Mountain View Co-Op to Anaconda Hills Golf Course.
Also starting at 11 a.m. is a community fundraiser for the Black Eagle Park. The park is fully supported by volunteers. All operations are funded by this annual picnic. Come join us for food provided by Brian’s Top Notch Cafe, music, face painting, bounce houses, 50/50 drawings, raffle tables, and fun for all ages. Then, at 6 p. m. at the Black Eagle Community Center, bring the family and lounge and light off your own fireworks and enjoy our show as well!! There will be live music and food as well! $2 hamburgers, $1 hotdogs, $2 games of bowling and the pub crawlers on the patio!
The City of Great Falls fireworks display will begin at about 10:30 p.m. on Thursday. The best viewing of the community fireworks display will be at Elk’s-Riverside Park. West Bank Park will be closed all day in order for the pyrotechnics to set up the display. Handicap parking will be available in the Farmers Union Building parking lot located on River Drive. Access to that parking lot will only be at Central Avenue West and River Drive.
Please take note of the rules governing fireworks within Great Falls city limits:
The selling and discharging of fireworks within the incorporated limits of Great Falls can only take place on July 2, July 3 and July 4 from 8 am to midnight (per City Code – §9.9.90 /Ordinance 2965). As a reminder, stick rockets, bottle rockets, and roman candles are not allowed in Montana (per State Law). It is important to understand that Cascade County has different rules and regulations as it relates to fireworks, and the City does not regulate the sale or discharge of fireworks outside the City limits.
Residents should only discharge fireworks on private property. Fireworks are prohibited from being discharged on all publicly owned areas such as parks, streets, cul-de-sacs, public sidewalks or public-right-of-ways or any publicly owned parking lot/parking space or alley. Children 10 and younger, partaking in the firework festivities, must have a supervising adult within 10-feet, to control the application of flame or other means to discharge the firework.
Always remember to clean up after the fun! Fireworks are messy and tend to cause a lot of debris; please remember to pick up any trash left behind from the discharging of fireworks (it is illegal to leave debris from discharged fireworks).
