Buffalo Kite Festival
July 6 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Join us at First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park for the seventh annual Buffalo Kite Festival.
SkyWindWorld, Inc. founder Terry Zee Lee has worked with Native American artists from around the United States to develop unique buffalo-themed kites. Come make your own kite and watch as it takes flight from the buffalo jump – wind permitting. Kite kits will be available to purchase for $5 on the days of the festival.
In addition to kite flying the weekend will include a brief introduction of the project as well as an explanation of the buffalo art featured on the kites. Don Fish (Blackfoot) will be preforming an opening ceremony before the activities start.
Meet two of the artists, Rabbit Knows Gun (Crow artist from Billings) and DG House (prolific Cherokee artist from Bozeman), enjoy watching professionals fly their kites throughout the day, make your own traditional Native game pieces, and learn and try your hand at shooting a primitive bow and arrow or atlatl. Your kite will be flown where Native people once used the landscape to hunt buffalo for food, clothing, shelter, and tools! The event is sure to be great fun for visitors of all ages.
Food will be available for purchase all weekend at Vintage Nana’s Indian Taco Truck.
