The renovated and re-imagined Tracy’s diner has been open for a few weeks now, and we gave it a test drive today. Verdict: it’s a win!
The iconic restaurant at the corner of Central Avenue and 1st Street closed back in April or May of 2018, and the new owners did a great job on the redesign – it’s still got a very retro feel, but definitely feels more modern and “clean.”
The service overall was fine – you could tell that they are still getting into their groove and working on timing – but everyone was pleasant and smiling and made us feel quite welcome.
We ordered some cheese curds as appetizers, and they were amazing! Best in town, in the category of “cheesesticks and/or cheese curds.” Tasted fresh, not frozen.
For lunch it was a shrimp salad and a bacon double-cheeseburger. The salad was fine, although the lettuce could have been a wee bit fresher. The burger was big and tasty, and very juicy. And the FRESH-CUT fries were great! Fresh-cut fries go a long way toward making a meal from OK to great!
Had to get an apple crisp for dessert, even though there was very little room left in my tum. It was delicious, too, although not quite as good as the one served up at Rikki’s.
Also of note: the table-top jukeboxes are gone, which is sad, but understandable.
Overall: the new Tracy’s is off to a great start, and we can’t wait to go back! Check ’em out on Facebook right here.
