Very sad news — two people died in the Missouri River in Great Falls today.

It happened at about 4 p.m., and responding agencies included Great Falls Fire Rescue, Great Falls Police Department, Great Falls Emergency Services, and the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office.

KTVH posted the following information just before 10 p.m.: “The Cascade County Sheriff’s Office identified the two people who died in a jet ski accident on the Missouri River. Sheriff’s office representatives said the two people were Dennis Sire, 66, and Karon Sire, 57.”

The deaths were apparently caused by a collision; I have seen several posts on Facebook indicating that the jet skis MAY have been hit by a boat, but no confirmation from GFPD or CCSO.

My sincere condolences to all of the loved ones of the Sires, and appreciation to all of the emergency responders.

This is simply heartbreaking.

UPDATE: It appears that the jet skis crashed into each other – there was no other boat/vehicle involved. Details + obituary here.
