Very, very sad news – the Flathead Beacon reported this morning that two 18-year-old women died in a two-car crash near West Glacier on Wednesday; according to the Great Falls Tribune, the Montana Highway Patrol says that both were from Great Falls. A toddler – the child of one of the women – was injured in the crash.
The names of the two young women have not been officially released yet.
If anyone gets word of a GoFundMe campaign (or similar fundraiser) to help the baby and family, please let me know.
My heart breaks for their loved ones.
UPDATE: KRTV says that the women are Caitlin Benner and Vanessa Fitzgerald.
UPDATE: Here is a link to the GoFundMe page for Vanessa; it reads, in part:
She was a great person! She loved her daughter Karoline very much! She was great at being a mom! Anything she did was for Karoline. I would like anyone reading this to take a moment and remember the good times you had with her! She was the most caring person I know!
I have not yet come across a GoFundMe for Caitlin.
UPDATE: There are now two other GoFundMe to help Vanessa’s family; that brings the total to three.
The most recent one that I’ve seen was created by Robert Cracraft (cousin) on behalf of Jenny Fitzgerald (mother) and Karoline (daughter); it reads, in part:
Vanessa was a loving 18 years old mother. She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Karoline (care bear). In fact, the reason she was traveling from Kalispell to Great Falls is because Karoline needed to have her stomach feeding tube replaced. They had left Kalispell hospital in the early afternoon and were returning to Great Falls when the accident happened. Both Vanessa and her best friend Cait Benner were pronounced dead at the scene. Karoline was air-lifted back to Kalispell Medical Center from where they had just left. Karoline has a collapsed lung but should recover.
I do not know which of the three GoFundMe accounts is more or less “worthy” or “legitimate” – if you want to donate, it’s entirely up to you to determine which of them (or all of them) are legit.
