    Most people think “Dock of the Bay” when they think of Otis Redding. But did you know that Otis wrote and recorded “Respect”, later immortalized by Aretha Franklin? (I cover that song with my band.)

    He also wrote “Hard to Handle”, ripped up and made famous many years later by the Black Crowes (I do that one too.)

    RIP, Otis – one of the best (unknown) R&B songwriters of the era.

  2. Amen, Tom. Didn’t realize until I watched the show how young he was when we lost him – only 26…unbelievable. And I love love love his version of “Respect” – way better than Aretha’s!
