Still one of my favorite pictures, from one of my favorite day-trips – taken out in between Augusta and Choteau back in 2008. Still haven’t figured out why the train car is up on concrete blocks. Click for larger Flickr view.



  1. The railroad will sell damaged or phased out cars for a little more than scrap price so that they don’t have to dispose of them. The cars make good storage containers for grain and fertilizer. I’m guessing that the car is up so high so the farmer can back right under it to load.
