Vandals have knocked over nearly 100 headstones at the Highland Cemetery in Great Falls.
The damage was done sometime late Monday night or early Tuesday morning.
Chris Burnett, the cemetery caretaker, was stunned by what he found when he arrived on Tuesday.
Burnett said, “I don’t understand why someone would come out and do all this. It just doesn’t make any sense. It doesn’t take much to push them over but to put them back up takes fifteen minutes.”
Oh, how I hope the people who did this are caught.
Took Ziggy outside late this morning and we were greeted by two loose (but friendly) large dogs, one a German shepherd and the other a golden lab. They exchanged pleasantries, and then the two big dogs wandered off.
Speaking of bars…I was relaxing at home the other day when a pig stopped by to visit. He’s from out of town, and we hadn’t seen each other in a while. Here’s a transcript of our conversation:
PIG: So, what going on, Dave?
ME: Not much…just chillin’.
PIG: Anything exciting going on in G-Funk?
ME: Pig, you know I don’t like it when you refer to Great Falls as “G-Funk.”
PIG: Sorry…so what’s up?
ME: Just reading this story about how businesses at Westgate Mall have to relocate…looks like some of them have found new locations, but one place is still trying to find a new home.
PIG: Westgate Mall? It’s closing?
ME: Not just closing – they’re tearing it down.
PIG: Whoa…wait, one place still hasn’t found a place to move to?
ME: Nope. It’s the bar in the mall that’s been there for years and years.
PIG: The bar? I don’t remember a bar in Westgate Mall. What’s it called?
ME: It’l Do, Pig. It’l Do.
Thank you. I’ll be here all week – try the veal, and don’t forget to tip your waiter.
UPDATE: um…just in case some of you don’t get the reference…
Ever wanted to do the “bar crawl” along 10th Avenue South? Yeah…not me, either. But if you do, then the folks at eHow have put together some instructions, starting with Step #1:
Start your 10th Ave. S. bar crawl at the Flamingo Lounge at 3028 10th Ave. S. The Flamingo is one of Great Falls’ hippest and trendiest nightspots. While some of the bars you’ll visit later will be a little more low-key, for the Flamingo, you’ll want to dress to impress. Have a few drinks, play some Keno and if you’re truly brave, ride the only mechanical bull that Great Falls has to offer.
“Hippest and trendiest.” Well, since I’ve never been inside the Flamingo, I’ll have to take them at their word.
The continuing mystery behind the move of SAM and the static on 107.3 may have been solved by GreaterFalls friend James C, who writes:
As of Monday 107.3 has made it’s move to 102.7. I will miss listening to them in my town and being able to hear them all the way when I drive to Great Falls.
I just got a reply from the station. Turns out it was a station sale deal by the owners that involved purchasing 101.7, 102.7 and 103.9. They sold 107.3 as part of the deal. 107.3 will be country music station soon.
Which reminds me – the “new” SAM at 102.7 sure does seem to have lots more local voice this week.
