Have I mentioned lately how much I love my job? And if I didn’t love it enough before, now I’m REALLY loving it, since we made a huge switch a few weeks ago to a new content-management system. Not just for KRTV – but for all of the Montana’s News Stations sites (KBKZ, KPAX, KTVQ, etc). For a long-time blogger like me who’s been spoiled by WordPress, the new system is a HUGE improvement. For instance, it’s much easier to leave comments on stories now, it has an integrated “most popular stories” widget, videos are easier to manage and play (on Macs, too!), and images are easier to integrate/manage.
One of my favorite features of the new system is that it makes it SO much easier for bloggers (like me!) to cut/paste videos directly into blogs – like I did with this entry a few days ago.
And one of the features that’s not obvious at first is the option of a “continuous news” version of the site – you can see it in action here: http://www.krtv.com/mt-news/ (you can get to it by clicking on the “MT News” button at the top of the navigation bar at KRTV.com). Basically, this layout adopts a much more blog-like presentation, presenting all of the stories in reverse-chronological order, with ratings and comments visible for each entry. I like it better than the standard layout of most TV news websites – but I’d really like to know what you think – do you like the “continuous news” layout better than the traditional layout (like this)?
