“Contact” Theory

More billboards. Radio ads. TV ads. Updates on the website. Obviously, someone (Banik?) is going to a lot of trouble to get our attention, and it’s working. Lots of us are talking about it and trying to figure out the “WeMakeContact” mystery. As I told my buddy Todd via e-mail today, the site visits here to GreaterFalls.com are through the roof the last few days with people searching for clues…in fact, I probably couldn’t have come up with a better promotional campaign for GreaterFalls! But the mystery remains: what is it all about? What will be unveiled on January 15? One theory is that the marketing campaign is on behalf of Chili’s. Unfortunately, I don’t think that’s it, for several reasons.

First, Chili’s doesn’t need any advertising in our small community, and especially not on this scale. It’s a nationally-known name-brand, and in Great Falls, word spreads quickly – everyone has known for months that Chili’s is coming. Second, AFAIK, Chili’s has never used cryptic advertising – UFO sightings and coded messages. Their ad campaigns all revolve around the food, the fun, and the chili pepper. Third, the advertised date is January 15, and there is no way that Chili’s will be ready to open next Tuesday. If you’ve driven by, it’s pretty clear that the grand opening is at least several weeks away, perhaps even a couple months.

So where does that leave us? With a few clues: fake UFOs, invasion, January 15, making contact. Like the tree said to the lumberjack: I’m stumped!



  1. I’m thinking that whatever is going to be released in SIX DAYS, has to be a service. If it was a building (i.e. the previously thought of Chili’s), we’d know about it already, and know what it was.

    Verizon is the only service that comes to mind, but since they are already offering service here in Great Falls, if it IS THEM, then they would have to be offering a new type of service – But I’m thinking not.

    Viacomm also comes to mind as a large scale business that starts with ‘V’, but again, what could they be offering Great Falls?

    Another thing that gets me, is that whoever is running the WeMakeContact site, the guy is simply a bad speller. I’m not sure if thats on purpose or what. But ya, I gotta get busy and think of some new content for my page, now that Chili’s is out.

  2. My Latest thought, is that it must be something local to Great Falls, that will be revealed or offered. I am not thinking this is all about a movie or DVD release, since movies and DVDs are a nationwide thing, and such a release would not concern itself with Great Falls in particular, or feel that we were worth all the TV, Radio, and billboard ads. So Whatever is going to happen next Tuesday, will be a local business, service, or event.

  3. I agree, it can’t be for Chilis. It is kind of a cheesey marketing campaign and it doesn’t seem like something they would do. I also agree with Ron, it has to be something local to GF. So that leaves out Verizon and DVDs as well.

    My guess, maybe Great Falls is getting a new radio station and this is how they chose to market.

  5. Ron- Bad spelling is the latest way to get attention…or to try & be “hip”…LOL

    It has to be something really cheesy! I am starting to think it will be so lame I’ll have to try to get David here to delete all my posts about it!
