New Restaurants

If you enjoy dining out, it doesn’t get much better than this…Great Falls is experiencing a mini-boom of new restaurants – let’s take a look:

Next to Wal-Green’s on 10th Avenue South at 23rd Street is a pair of “fast” food places. The Pita Pit opened a couple of months ago, and it’s great for a late-night pita; plenty of choices, including veggie pitas. Next door to the Pita Pit is the Noodle Express, which is doing boffo business since opening a couple of weeks ago. Noodles, rice bowls, choices of meat (beef, pork, shrimp, chicken), served in simple surroundings. Good stuff. I’ve already been a few times, and saw other folks that also were on their second visit.

The Trib reported on a new eatery downtown: the Health Food Cafe at 200 Central Avenue. Whole grains, low-sugar, etc, but they also serve bison burgers for us carnivores. Haven’t tried it yet, but will soon.

The long-awaited Boston’s The Gourmet Pizza is currently doing a “shakedown” cruise; all of the staff members are being put their paces with real customers and doing some final tweaking to get everything just right. I suspect that they will be fully open within a week or so.

And, of course, the long, long, LONG-awaited Chili’s and Macaroni Grill: the building isn’t done yet, so I don’t think it will be ready for another couple of months, but it will be worth the wait!

When I found out that I was moving to Montana back in 2002, I did a happy dance; the next thing I did was check to make sure that Great Falls had high-speed internet (whew!); the third thing I checked on was the closest Chili’s restaurant. Much to my dismay, there were NO Chili’s in Montana; I think we are the last state to get one. Better late than never, though!

  1. I like the Pita Pit’s food, but they’re still working on the service part. It’s not bad, but not as fast as it could be. We tried Noodle Express the other day, and I can recommend it generally, although the dish I had was not to my particular taste. I’ll be happy to try something else there another time. And if you can’t wait for the Chili’s to open here in a few months, the one in Helena ought to be open very, very soon if it’s not already. I ate at the Macaroni Grill there some weeks ago, and they were finishing up the Chili’s building.

  2. I spoke with the future manager of Chili’s. He’s moving up here from Las Vegas. He said they plan to open Jan. 8th. But it’s the Macaroni Grill for which I lust. My body is where breadsticks go to die… nothing sexual, I just really like bread.

  3. Elmer’s went bye-bye a few weeks ago, and now it is Monty’s Taste Of The West. We ate there last week, and I will give a full review this weekend.
