Can I Have a “W”?

Really, I’m not trying to pick on the GF Development Authority; I’m trying to help, seriously. But after getting the brush-off, I don’t know of any other way to get their attention. So when I point out that their “Communications” page has a link to Quest – and even spells it “Quest” – when what they probably should have linked to was Qwest (with a W), I do it only because I want them to get it right. Although I’m sure that Quest – the software company – appreciates the link.

  1. Greetings from Quest Software. Yes, we get confused for Qwest Communications all the time. So much so that we customized our on-site search engine to appropriately respond when people search our site for things like “ringtones” or “DSL.” We gently ask if they might have been looking for Qwest instead and then provide them a link. It’s the least we can do to be helpful and get them where they really wanted to go.

But of course, we do benefit from mistaken linkages such as the one you point out, at least from a search engine perspective. *grin*

Ah well, thanks for the mention…again. 🙂

  2. I understand what you are trying to do but think it’s a lost cause. I tried to help our local business dev board improve their website. Offered to recreate the whole website and include a lot of “wanted” features. The fee I proposed was rather low compared to what they are/were paying but…I got no response for the director. Oh, I spent 35 minutes in his office and he agreed with everything I said that needed improvement. Follow up letters, e-mails and phone calls went unanswered so I gave up.

Two years have past and the website is still basically the same. They did get new colors on the website but no new content and no new features. Eye candy is what they wanted ??? With the “good old boy network” in place, it’s no wonder my community is floundering when it comes to attracting new companies.
