“Contact” Theory

Tuesday, January 8, 2008

More billboards. Radio ads. TV ads. Updates on the website. Obviously, someone (Banik?) is going to a lot of trouble to get our attention, and it’s working. Lots of us are talking about it and trying to figure out the “WeMakeContact” mystery. As I told my buddy Todd via e-mail today, the site visits here to GreaterFalls.com are through the roof the last few days with people searching for clues…in fact, I probably couldn’t have come up with a better promotional campaign for GreaterFalls! But the mystery remains: what is it all about? What will be unveiled on January...

Aye, There’s The Rub

Monday, January 7, 2008

Remember when we gave Monty’s A Taste Of The West a test-drive a few weeks ago? I was put off by the unannounced flavor on my ribeye steak, and had to send it back in exchange for a new un-flavored steak. Well, now we know why, courtesy of the Trib’s restaurant reviewer: John has developed a steak rub, used first at his own backyard barbecues and brought to the restaurant at the urging of friends. He is so sure that you will like it, he serves the rub on all the steaks, no steak sauce needed. Top sirloin, New...

Boston’s The Gourmet Pizza

Thursday, December 27, 2007

We finally made it to the new restaurant – Boston’s The Gourmet Pizza – last night. We went at 9:00 pm, figuring that the wait wouldn’t be too bad, and we were indeed seated immediately. The atmosphere is lively, and the overall look of the place is pretty fun. There seemed to be dozens of staff members rushing around, most of them with smiles and zip in their step. The menus are fun, too, presented like large hard-back books. Plenty of choices on the menu: pasta, pizza, burgers, seafood, salads, and lots of appetizers. Since we had never eaten...

Monty’s A Taste Of The West

UPDATE: Monty’s A Taste Of The West closed in June 2008. Monty’s A Taste Of The West, which occupies the building that used to be Elmer’s, has been open for about two weeks. Monty’s A Taste of The West 1600 Fox Farm Road Great Falls, Montana Phone: (406) 761-2400 We were excited heading in there – I envisioned steaks on a par with the Highwood Bar, or Cattleman’s Cut. The first thing we noticed when we walked in was smoke – it smelled pretty good, like steaks on a grill, but it almost seemed like there was a fire...

Wait For It…

Friday, December 21, 2007

Thought it would be fun to try Boston’s The Gourmet Pizza this evening…but after I found a place to park and walked in, I saw that it was packed and realized it might take a while to get seated. So I asked the hostess for a ballpark estimate on the wait time, and she winced and said it could be up to two hours. Two hours. *blink* Whoa. So it was off to Ryan’s Station for dinner. We’ll try again once things settle down a bit, or maybe during a “slow” time of day. If there is one, yet....

The Gourmet Pizza – Open!

Wednesday, December 19, 2007

It’s official: K tipped us off in the comments yesterday, and now the Trib has announced that Boston’s The Gourmet Pizza is open for business! The name of this place still confounds me, but that won’t stop me from giving it a try sometime this week. Do any of you “early adopters” have a first-blush review after eating there? Food, service, atmosphere – tell us what you thought. It’s located on 7th Street just behind Mountain West Bank (south side of 10th Ave South).

New Restaurants

Thursday, December 13, 2007

If you enjoy dining out, it doesn’t get much better than this…Great Falls is experiencing a mini-boom of new restaurants – let’s take a look: Next to Wal-Green’s on 10th Avenue South at 23rd Street is a pair of “fast” food places. The Pita Pit opened a couple of months ago, and it’s great for a late-night pita; plenty of choices, including veggie pitas. Next door to the Pita Pit is the Noodle Express, which is doing boffo business since opening a couple of weeks ago. Noodles, rice bowls, choices of meat (beef, pork, shrimp, chicken), served in simple...
