New News

Wednesday, March 14, 2007

I remember seeing an ad a few months ago for KTGF – they were looking for someone to do the news on our local Fox station. Yes, I did want to apply for the position, but unfortunately I won’t be available for new employment until September. But now it looks like they found someone: Karen Wolf is the station’s news anchor. Her job includes community affairs director duties, too. Originally from St. Louis, Wolf moved to Great Falls in December with her husband, who is in the U.S. Air Force. “I saw this job posted online and it looked...

Stamp Act

Wednesday, February 28, 2007

Postal Service to raise rates. Um…OK. Do any of you still use stamps? I don’t recall the last time I purchased stamps – with the exception of Energy West, I pay all of my bills online – mortgage, credit card, NW Energy, Bresnan, Qwest, even City utilities. For Energy West – I just drive by their downtown location and drop off the payment. So what do you think? Do you buy lots of stamps – will this hit you hard? Or are you strictly an online person, and don’t worry about postage?

Danny Reed: Ranger In Need

Saturday, January 13, 2007

Most of you know about Danny Reed, the man who was arrested last week for interfering with an airline flight en route to Great Falls. Sounds like a no-brainer, but there is more to the story: he is a former Army Ranger who has served in Afghanistan and Iraq, and has witnessed some truly horrible events, which apparently – when coupled with some alcohol before and during his flight – caused him to behave erratically and wound up getting him in some very hot water. I found some comments from his mother, Sonja, over at the Topix Great Falls...

The impact: most federal offices and agencies will NOT be open on Tuesday, including most of Malmstrom Air Force Base, and there will be no mail service.

Trouble At The Brick

Trouble At The Brick

Three Airmen from Malmstrom were stabbed over the weekend after a bar fight moved outside of the The Brick. Police have leads to catch the two people who stabbed them, but I’m sure that they would welcome any more witnesses or information – if you know anything about the incident, please call 771-1180. This story has actually generated a few responses at the GF Tribune forums, including this bone-headed comment from someone who posts under the handle of gtdrecords: “Well if them outtatowners quit actin like people from great falls are bitches they wouldnt be in that situation.” Implying,...

Busy News Day

Tuesday, October 3, 2006

Wow…looks like GeeGuy and Firefly have created a bit of a stir in their telling of the tale of Sam Harris and Mike Smart…the Trib has done a feature about the situation. And in other news, CMR principal Richard Kloppel is in some hot water over an alleged incident of “partner or family abuse.” And does anyone know what happened this morning a little after 7:00 am near 5th Street just north of 10th Avenue South? On the way to work there were at least four or fire police cars converging on that area.
