One of the fixtures here in Great Falls is “Larry The Homeless Guy.” I don’t know if that’s his name, but that’s what everyone calls him. You can see him just about every day, pushing or pulling his large cart of belongings along 6th Street, or on Central Avenue, or sometimes across the 10th Avenue South bridge. The kids all “know” his story: he’s actually a millionaire, he’s got mental problems but won’t take his medications, he’s married with several kids, he invented an incredible device, he was a war hero, and so on. Sip-n-Dip

Somebody has some fond memories (and pictures!) of their visit to the Sip-n-Dip! The Sip-n-Dip Lounge is located in the O’Haire Motor Inn in downtown Great Falls, and back in 2003 it was ranked by GQ magazine as the “#1 Bar In the World Worth Flying To.” The primary attraction, other than the kitschy ultra-tiki-theme, is the mermaid swimming in the tank; in fact, when the most famous mermaid of modern times, Darryl Hannah, visited Great Falls, she donned a mermaid suit and jumped in, too. Hot Stuff

Well, the mercury finally cracked the 75 degree mark in Great Falls yesterday. I know that’s probably very nice for most folks, but it makes me a little sad (in a way) to know that Summer has arrived. I’ll enjoy parts of it — the sunshine, the fans blowing, etc — but I won’t enjoy the temperatures once they get above 80 degrees. Sigh.

Reversal of Fortune

Just read over at the Great Falls Tribune that the school board (with 3 new members) voted to reverse last year’s decision to close East Middle School. Instead, it will be Paris Gibson Middle School that gets shuttered. Wow. Quite a turn of events.
