Runaway Cow Update

Monday, January 9, 2006

It looks like the Runaway Cow is going to live out her days in peace & tranquility: the owner is apparently going to sell her rather than let her be slaughtered, due to the huge outpouring of public support and sympathy. The cow has been nicknamed “Molly B,” as in “The Unsinkable Molly Brown.” Go Molly B!

Holy Cow!

Holy Cow!

WOW! I just read the article in the Tribune about the Runaway Cow – what a spirited bovine! I wish that I had been nearby and able to see this amazing cow as it led authorities on a merry chase. Apparently, it even swam across the river near Broadwater Bay. Now that she’s been caught, however, the question is: should the cow be killed, as was the original plan? Or does a cow that waged such a spirited fight for freedom be allowed to live and spend the rest of her life grazing peacefully…? The way I see it,...

Vet Visit

Monday, January 2, 2006

One of our cats, Decar (pronounced “Decker”), is currently relaxing at Best Friends Animal Hospital. She’s having some neuro problems, so last night (Sunday) at about 7:00 pm, I called the hospital, got the answering service, and received a call back from the on-call vet (Dr Norton) within 10 minutes. I described Decar’s symptoms, and he offered to meet me at the hospital within an hour. Upon arriving, he did some preliminary tests on Decar, set her up for a relaxing night at the hospital, and was truly wonderful. I was impressed with his compassion, humor, and service. I...

Fowl Play

Stopped by Gibson Park today and shot a few Tiny Videos of the Canada geese and the ducks – very cute. I didn’t realize that the pond was still frozen – it was quite whimsical to watch the geese walking on the pond! Read The Whole Thing >>> In theory, you should see an embedded QuickTime player right below this text; just click the “Play” button (looks like an arrow pointing to your right) and you should (!) be able to watch the clip. Let me know if it works! « Hide It

All’s Fair In…

Sunday, July 31, 2005

Time for the annual Montana State Fair – right here in Great Falls! So – who’s going? What are you looking forward to at the Fair? Or are you skipping it? I might go to see the animals and enjoy the food, but I’m not a big fan of carnival rides. UPDATE: wheeeeee! I went to the fair on Saturday – spent nearly five hours there and LOVED it – here are a few pix! It cost $2 to see the white bengal tigers – and it was the best $2 I’ve spent in a long time – they...

Sad News

Honey Bun, the baby swan at Gibson Park, died earlier this week. SanityEludesMe first alerted me to this story, and has a picture. And I have a very brief video clip (Windows Media) of two swans at Gibson Pond taken back in June 2003; click here to see it (or Right-Click, Save-As to your computer).

Thar Be Geese Here!

Wednesday, May 18, 2005

One of the highlights of May is seeing the little baby Canada geese along the Missouri River. Their parents march them back-n-forth across River Road, and drivers are almost unfailingly courteous as they patiently wait for all of the goslings to complete the treacherous journey. Of course, having Ma & Pa Goose staring you down from the middle of the road can be a bit intimidating. Using my admittedly less-than-stellar phone-camera, I snapped some pix today on the way home from work. Enjoy!
