We enjoyed lunch on Friday at the Family Affair restaurant — our first time there!
It’s tucked along the east side of the Snyder’s/Van’s building along 7th Avenue North between 25th and 26th Street. It’s small inside — only 11 tables, very cozy. Nothing fancy — just home-cooked meals. The waitress said that they have been there for 40 years, but based on talking with some friends and co-workers, it’s pretty much a hidden gem — not a lot of people know about it.
I — of course — got a double-cheeseburger, fries, and a cola, and was pretty impressed with the burger. Fries were fresh and OK, but not as good as Missouri River Diner or Good Time Charlie’s. Cola was served up in a BIG glass, which I appreciate — no need to ask for a refill! My wife enjoyed a grilled bacon and cheese sandwich and fries, and was quite happy with it.
The downside is that Family Affair is only open Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m., so if you want to try it, the window of opportunity is a bit small — but based on our lunch, it’s worth it.
And although we didn’t sample or buy any, they seemed pretty proud of their home-made pies — they looked delicious, will have to pick one up someday!
Last thought: I suspect that they have very good breakfasts.
