Staggering Ox

Great Falls fans of the Staggering Ox in Helena (and Missoula, etc) can rejoice: they opened up in Great Falls today! I called them yesterday and got confirmation. It’s located at 2nd Avenue South at 2nd Street, where The Breaks (and the Bay Leaf) used to be. Not sure of their hours yet, but you can give ‘em a call at 315-2300.

Rumors of the Ox coming to Great Falls go all they way back to 2004.

Called them yesterday. It’s a soft opening… they’re only serving a couple types of sandwiches. The hard opening will occur in a week or two.

Yep – we found out the “hard” way, Jim – ate there on Saturday and it’s still pretty rough. Can’t wait til they get things running smoothly.

I like sandwiches but I think it’s ridiculous that it takes 20 minutes to get lunch at the Staggering Ox when our office is in the same building but Jimmy John’s can deliver in less than 5 minutes. What’s up with that?

Yeah, but Jimmy John’s gives you the chi chi’s. I love the Staggering Ox! LLWB ;/

That’s not true…it’s the Chinese food that causes the Chi Chi’s and you’re only saying that because you don’t want to share your other office with anyone. LQTS ;)

Hey T this is A, how many times do I have to tell you you’re not a food critic! Quit posting your opinions about food, life, and speedy delivery men!

Hey A…this is T, mind your business! This is America and I have the right to freedom of speech. Btw, I never said the food was bad but….what kind of sandwich place doesn’t have cucumbers? Um, weird – I think yes!

Yeah, Staggering Ox needs to speed up their sandwich making process. Prepare to take the afternoon off of work if you want a sandwich…and ease up on the lettuce yo! If i wanted a salad, i’d go to salad creations!

If we could like your comment “ThatGuy”, we would! Oh and Salad Creations is the bomb! The employees and owner of that establishment really know what customer service and good food is about!

Ate there a few weeks ago with my wife and kid. I guess I just didn’t get it. Everybody was just raving about the “can”(or whatever they call it) sandwhiches, but they didn’t really impress me all that much.

The “can” sandwich take three bites to get across it – two one each edge which is mostly bread, and then the center bite which is mostly whatever is left. Then you get to the bottom of the “can” and it’s all bread and nothing else. The taste was ok, although none of the sauces on the list really turned my crank. Pasta salad was ok – potato salad not so much, but I’m spoiled by my wife’s.

Service was not all that great, and it seemed to take a long time to get our food. Took a long time to get the ticket after we were finished.

It wasn’t that bad – I just didn’t think it was all that and a bag of chips.

I ordered out a couple weeks ago. Gave them 30 minutes to have a couple sandwiches and bread guts ready… and they passed with flying colors. However, everyone I’ve talked with says the dining in experience is… SLOW.
