It fascinates me to see how Montana’s communities have grown over the years.

And I love that our license plates still reflect the original “order” – we should always remember Butte as the original #1 of Montana!

    They say that the license plates were assigned sometime around 1930 in population order but I wonder why then, would Anaconda (Deer Lodge County) be #30 while Bozeman and Kalispell are #6 and #7….? There has to be an explanation that makes sense, right?

    If you want to have your eyes opened on population growth (or lack thereof)… look at Great Falls population in 1960 and compare that to 2010. At best… Great Falls is stagnant.
