After living in Great Falls for 9 years (as of TODAY!), I finally made it to Choteau – why oh why didn’t I make the hour-long drive until now? It was awesome!
First, the drive: duh, of course it was beautiful – but especially the part between Fairfield and Choteau! Wide open space, Freezout Lake, some snow-capped peaks of the Front…heavenly.
Second: the Old Trail Museum in Choteau is amazing – dinosaurs, grizzly bears, A.B. Guthrie, “Old Sol,” Indian history, gift store, and ice cream parlor. And of course it wouldn’t be Montana if you didn’t happen to run into a friend along the way – and sure enough, our friend Stuart just happened to be working at the museum when we arrived!
Then it was off to a funky antique and collectible store on the main drag (Days Gone By?), and then some Italian sodas at a very cool coffee shop across the street called Bridges, and some gazing at the exterior of retro-cool Roxy movie theatre.
All in all: one of my favorite day-trips EVER. Can’t wait to go back. Click here to see more photos of the trip!

Seriously?!! You really need to get out more, Dave. Have you ever done the Havre Underground?
Is the Roxy Theater still up for sale? I went to a movie there back in 2007… and the place said “for sale.”
