Friday Geese, Weekend Snow

April 18th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Does it get any better than this? Geese + Snow = Happy! Later this morning the city will conduct the annual - and oh-so-whimsical “Release The Geese” (and swans!) ritual at Gibson Pond, and then we have a near-100% likelihood of snow on Saturday and Sunday! In fact, some of the more optimistic (or pessimistic, if you’re a snow-hater) forecasts predict as much as 12 inches of snow across the plains, and up to 24 inches in the mountains. Check it out:

april snow storm!

Here’s what the weather folks are saying:

“The National Weather Service in Great Falls has issued a Winter Storm Warning… in effect from 6 am Saturday to 6 PM MDT Sunday. Snow accumulations of 8 to 15 inches are likely over the plains with accumulations up to 2 feet in the mountains. Gusty northerly winds of 15 to 30 mph will cause areas of blowing snow with the threat of whiteout conditions. Widespread hazardous travel conditions are likely to exist by Saturday afternoon and continue into Sunday. The combination of heavy wet snow and gusty winds will stress Young livestock and also has the potential to cause local power outages.”

Whoa…Winter ain’t giving up yet! Enjoy the show - and be safe.
