How many of you have heard of Big Brothers – Big Sisters? How many of you would love to help the local chapter of this organization, but don’t think you have the time to make a difference? Well, here’s two bits of good news.
The first bit is that being a Big Brother or Big Sister does NOT take a whole lot of your time – only hours per month, but those hours will make a big difference in the life of a child (or young teen).
Second, if you absolutely can’t squeeze any more time out of your busy schedule but still want to help – and have fun doing it – here’s a great way to do it: purchase a ticket and attend one of the social highlights of the season – the UBS Select 2007 dinner! It will be held on February 9th at the Meadowlark Country Club and feature an elegant dinner, a limited edition print for every attendee from way-cool-talented local artist Cliff Rossberg, and both a silent auction and a live auction (with some amazing items up for bid!). This event is the largest fundraiser of the year for Big Brothers – Big Sisters of Great Falls, so let’s put it over the top: if you would like to attend (or donate auctions items – goods or services) for UBS Select 2007, please call the BB-BS GF office at 453-5521, or e-mail me at david @ greaterfalls.com for more details. And, of course, if you can’t attend UBS Select 2007 but want to be part of a great organization by volunteering your time, just call Tina, Laura, or Amy at the BB-BS GF office at 453-5521.

One other thing: I’ve “adopted” BB-BS as my official charitable organization – for several reasons. It is, as far as I can tell, non-partisan – doesn’t matter if you’re red or blue, conservative or liberal – the kids don’t care. They just need mentors and friends. Second, it helps kids and young teens in ways that just can’t be reached by government programs – it’s a program based on real people, doing real things (bowling, skating, reading, etc), with kids who need someone to look up to. Third, it makes our community better – both now and in the long run – ’nuff said.

So with that in mind: if you would like to contribute to Big Brothers – Big Sisters of Great Falls quickly and simply, I’ve set up a easy donation page via FirstGiving (charges 5% of the donation as a transaction fee – but the convenience is worth it, in my opinion). Anyone who donates will get a huge “kudos” shout-out here at GreaterFalls.com (for themself or their business), and anyone who donates $100 or more via the online page will get their choice of any item from the “schwag store” delivered to their door!
