To Market, To Market

OK, I am officially an idiot. I’ve lived here in Great Falls for nearly four years, and all this time I thought that the Farmer’s Market was strictly an event for fresh fruits and vegetables. On Thursday, however, I was informed that there is much more to it than that: arts-n-crafts, food, pony rides, and such. So yesterday I headed down there, and now I’m kicking myself for not having gone sooner — it was GREAT! The artisans are incredible: tye-dye shirts, trinkets & jewelry galore, wood crafts & furniture, baked goods, coffee, and so much more! There was also some live music, tasty little “Porkies On A Stick,” and as promised, pony rides! Very, very cool – I’ll be headed to the Farmer’s Market again soon!

But David, the fresh fruits and vegetables are also wonderful! I do most of my summer produce (and some meat) shopping on Saturday mornings. Get there early for the best selection, you will be impressed.

David — I just found out about your blog entry about the Farmer’s Market and I wanted to thank you. What an awesome testimonial!! And all the pictures are great. You did a wonderful job of showing the wide variety of products, activities, and entertainment that we have available for our patrons. We couldn’t ask for better advertising – and it was free! A very big THANK YOU from the Great Falls’ Original Farmer’s Market.

Well, its been almost a year since David’s first entry about the Great Falls’ Farmer’s Market and all that we have to offer, but what a difference a year makes! In 2007 the Farmer’s Market will be celebrating its 25th season and we have some fun things planned. First, we’re giving away a prize at every (yes, I said every) Farmer’s Market this year! We have some wonderful caps, T-shirts, tote bags and hooded zippered sweatshirts embroidered with our special 25th anniversary logo that will be for sale and we’re going to give away 2 of these at every Market – one to a customer and one to a vendor. Second, to top it off we’re going to have a Grand Prize drawing at the end of each month. What could be better than a Farmer’s Market cap, T-shirt, tote bag or sweatshirt, you ask? Well, how about a kid-size John Deere wagon filled with Farmer’s Market merchandise totaling over $150! And that’s just for the customer. The Grand Prize for the winning vendor is a $150 gift card to the store of their choice!

The Farmer’s Market is the biggest family-friendly social event in Great Falls and it happens every Saturday June through September from 7:45am – noon. And then in mid-July we add a Wednesday evening Market from 4:30 to 6:30pm. All of this happens in beautiful downtown Great Falls in the Civic Center Park. Hope to see you all there!
